Wolves In Danger

****UPDATE****
Victory: [link]

A temporary relief as things are looked into.

I found this out through the grapevine, visit: [link] for the blog entry I got this news from.

****UPDATE****
Just in then news:[link] It seems that according the the Federal Government that...

"We believe we made the right decision — that the wolf had recovered and the regulatory mechanisms are there" to ensure its continued survival, Rose said.

Since when did 1500 animals count as recovered?

It continues to state:

"When the wolves came off the endangered list, federal biologists argued the wolves' rapid reproductive rate would allow them to withstand increased hunting. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has said it will put them back on the endangered list if the population dips below 300 animals."

Below 300 animals?! It took the wolves two decades to recover from being hunted below 600 and they barely managed to make it.

Am I the only one who is stunned by this?

Also note that at least 37 wolves have been killed since the lifting of the protection.

Spread the word.

***END OF UPDATE****

***UPDATE****
Well, looks like the Mexican Wolf has trouble as well: [link]

I find it sick that the Ranchers think the wolves should be "removed" because they Kill four head of cattle, keep in mind that any confirmed Kill of cattle by a Wolf is paid for by Defenders of the Wild. Sadly, the Ranchers and Government see wolves moving outside of their "boundaries" as a risk and "removes" wolves who do. With no care of the survival of the species, nor the genetic diversity needed to maintain a species.

To them, a few head of cattle are worth more then an entire species of animal.

It is sad.

***END UPDATE****

Hey those few who watch me, I have some sad news.

Today the Wolf was taken off the endangered species protection list by the federal government. This leaves the management of the wolf to the local state government, that currently allows 80% of the population to be hunted, and with only 1500 wolves, that leaves 300 after hunting.

Whats worse are the methods allowed to be used in hunting the wolves, Poison bait, foot snares and aerial hunting (where the wolves are flushed out with helicopters and air planes and the hunter shoots them from the air or lets them run until they die of exhaustion, then just go and pick them up afterwards) There are just a few of the horrible methods used to hunt this species that has only just started its recovery.

What can you do?

Spread the word, The Defenders of the Wildlife are raising funds to take legal action against this.

You can read about this whole thing here: [link]

You can take action by writing or protesting here: [link]

and you can donate here: [link]

A very good LJ article about this can be found here: [link] (Thank you Namaah)

Thank you for your time, Please help spread the word

Some clips from the Defenders of the Wildlife site: [link]

"... Idaho

Idaho's governor publicly announced his intention to kill more than 80% of the state's wolves, and the state has already begun planning large scale wolf eradication efforts through hunting and aerial gunning. ..."

For those that do not know what Aerial hunting is, I point you to this youtube, However I warn you, it is not easy to watch. [link] [link]

"... Wyoming

Wyoming's wolf management plan would allow 16 of the existing 23 packs of the wolves in the state to be killed on sight. To accomplish this goal, the state would authorize poisoning, trapping and shooting within 90 percent of the wolf's current home range outside of the national parks ..."

Why is it that all the good hot guys are either gay, taken or fictional characters?
:iconhaphazardfox:
It is. Luckily there are a lot of people who are outraged about this and who are making their voices be heard. If we make enough noise, enough fuss and protest maybe things will change.

Thank you for leaving a comment.
